David Spade's Good Deeds
Published August 03, 2008
Arizona native David Spade, the comedian known for Rules of Engagement, 8 Simple Rules...for Dating My Teenage Daughter, Saturday Night Live, and Just Shoot Me, has contributed generously to save a shelter. Last Thursday, he donated $10,000 to the Humane Society of the White Mountains in Lakeside, Arizona, where his mother resides. The hospital mainly works with abandoned animals found in the neighboring mountains. One sources says, "The shelter was falling apart, and they were going to shut it down, so he stepped in. "It was far and above what they needed and ever received."
Mr. Spade has done a lot more that a lot of stars. This wasn’t his first good deed. Education is also important to David, who donated $15,000 to Saguaro High School, the one he graduated from in 1982. Helping those who protect us is also important to David. Besides donating to L.A. police offices, in 2007, David donated $25,000 to the family of a dead police officer. The money went to the funeral and other expenses to help the family get back on their feet.
Nick Erfle, who had already beaten cancer, was shot to death while arresting an illegal alien on September 18th, 2007. The 33-year-old man left behind his wife, a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old. "It just struck me as such a rough situation just because cops in general get kind of a bad rap lately and people forget it is the scariest job out there," David said. "I'm from Arizona so I'm always a little aware of things that are going on there."
It’s nice to see a man so funny helping others. It’s even nicer that it doesn’t seem like he’s doing it to get publicity. Keep up the good work, David. I’ll make sure to think of this the next time I see a rerun of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.
